All I can say is WoW! FnB really came through for the month of Dec.
Normally, FnB is a group of people cooking veggies and handing out food, but our group has decided to create a sort of food bank unlike those with religious affiliations or the regulations of the state. So, we did community out reach for the homeless and working-poor requesting fruit and veggies to be donated rather than thrown away.
Obviously the turn out was wonderful and the food was up lifting just to look at, let alone eat. For the working-poor and homeless access to fresh fruits and veggies is very limited due to the high cost associated with eating healthy. Donations of fresh food, such as fruit and veggies, are not usually accessible and are important to the health of the women, mothers, and children who will gain access to this donation.
We also accepted canned goods, and this month many folks wanted to provide gifts for the kids so we accepted those items as well.
The "FnB Fresh Food Bank" will be going on until the food is gone.
MANY THANKS
to the incredible regulars who donate time & food to FnB!
Caffe Vita (Tom B.) (Thanks for everything!!!)
Tony's Coffee & Teas Inc. (Tammy S.) (Thanks for the coffee / tea!)
Coffee Equipment Co. / Starbucks (Special Thanks to Gina S.) Rising Sun Farms Jacob B. Jane B. Mike N. Rob H. Anastasia C. Cathy C. And all others who contributed this month!!
I will update if we are given more, I understand due to weather some donations will be coming in Thur. / Fri.
Thanks so much! Please note that all this months donations were provided to the YWCA of Snohomish Co. and the homeless women and children they serve.
Thanks for everyone's contribution in Nov. and all the hard work being put forth for our Dec. 18th meeting!!!! To my surprise I'm told a few regulars to the group are contributing toys for the children of the families who are homeless and in transitional housing or shelter via the YWCA.
Thanks so much for your assistance and the great opportunity for the women and children to gain access to fresh food!!!! (oh, and some fun stuff like toys too this Dec.!)
I will post some pics. As many of you know the people we often give to are under a confidentiality agreement so there's no pics of the folks served, but I do try to let you all see the wonderful donation and how it helps!!!!
we've missed meetings for various reasons. So, let's get back in the game for the up coming fall and winter holidays!!!
As many of you might know, the colder months are some of the most difficult for homeless and disenfranchised families to get through. I've spoken with several of the regular folks who help monthly about meeting some time in early Nov. Thanksgiving is usually a well covered time food wise. So, if everyone is willing we can collect/meet for Tues. Nov. 11th.
Several of us will be out of town this month (Aug.) so we will regroup for Sept. around the 22nd. If you have food due to a donation (or do not want to break a pattern of donating) Cathy can still take the food to the women she works with in shelter. Just email and let us know.
Until, Sept! Enjoy the rest of Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's a shot of the generous donation of fresh food we received to assistance the homeless women and children of Lynnwood. The was no cookin, but next month we hope to prepare some yummy food and chat over issues concerning poverty. Unlike most food banks in the area, we do not require proof of income, ID, or proof of address. We simply hand out the food to those who request it no questions, forced prayer, or guilt added. If you are a resident of WA. in order to gain social services you must provide identification, to gain identification you must show proof of residency, to have proof of residency you must have two utility bills with your name and address on them, and in order to have these bills you must have funds for the id and utilities, all barriers to the HOMELESS.
Thanks so much to all who donated! I will post a more specific thank you when I get the 411 on who donated. Also, a special thanks to Whole Foods in the N. Seattle area who will be helping us next month!
